The PCA program enables Mass Health recipients whose disability is permanent or chronic in nature, and impairs the member's functional ability to perform ADLs and IADLs without
physical assistance to be cared for in their home. Services include:
- Bathing, dressing & toileting
- Medication administration
- Mobility/range of motion exercises
To be eligible for
the Personal Care Attendant program, an individual
must be a member of MassHealth. Consumers must need
physical assistance in at least two activities of
daily living, such as eating, bathing, dressing,
hygiene, etc.
Personal Care Attendants are recruited, trained
and supervised by the consumer (or his/her surrogate)
approved for services. PCAs do not work for The Arc
of the South Shore. They work for the consumer. A
surrogate is often a family member but may be any
other individual identified by the consumer to help
the consumer manage the PCA program.
